Challenges to Technology Integration: KITA

After discussing the challenges identified by each group member, please choose the one challenge that all group members agree on and post it here. Don't forget to include the possible causes of this challenge.

  • Resistance to using technology because of the "fear" that it won't work correctly.

  • Teacher Buy-in is a challenge. Most likely it is due to our natural reluctance to leave our comfort zone.

  • Lack of Facilities - I teach in a higly diverse, and high instance of low income students - which means many of my students do not have access to common technology - as well as a school with over 1400 students and only 2 computer labs.

  • I feel that the main challenge is the lack of technology materials that I have in my classroom. I only have 2 student computers and half the time those don't work! It's hard to implement technology when I don't have enough student computers. I think this is because our district lacks enough money to purchase the adequate materials needed for all of us.

  • Teachers do not have enough time to experiment and try new technology. They are concerned about covering the content that must be covered.

  • No time to learn about new technology.

    Outdated technology available at school.

  • One challenge is that I do not have the Knowledge that I need in an ever changing and growing world of technology.

  • CHALLENGE=teachers resistance to change. Reasons---fear of failure, lack of knowldge of systems, etc, THE NEED TO RETAIN "POWER" OVER STUDENTS, muwahaahaaa..

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:44 AM

  • Our teachers do not want to integrate technology because they do not want change. There are a few who will cooperate but very few.

  • Teachers today does not know enough to teach our students.

Most school systems do not have enough money to fund the technology needed in the schools.

  • How do we get administrators at the state, district levels to secure proper funding that enables teachers to use technology that is up to date so that our children will be ready for "their" future?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:44 AM

  • How do we change education to meet the technological demands our children will face? Obstacles are changing the general populations perception of what school should look like; also, we need the resources to provide the technology tools students need to stay a pace in our economic world;

  • First, meaningfull implementation of technology in the classroom as a normal part of instruction instead of being used as an 'add on.'
Second, computer-lab access for students to complete simulations.

  • Convincing teachers that technology can be used across disiplines and not just for word processing. Many of the seasoned teachers are unwilling to try new approaches and ideas to tie together technology, their content area and real life situations.

  • The biggest challenge to technology integration in my school is inadequate technology. Teachers won't use it because they fear that something will not work correctly and there will be no one to help them. Another reason teachers don't integrate technology is they simply don't have access to the technology they need. Funding for technology is a huge concern.

  • I feel that I use technology but I do not use it in my classroom yet. I wish to get lesson plans that involve some technology and I would love to see it done. I would also like to have copies of lesson plans that have technology.

  • Fear--
Teachers fear using technology with students because they do not have enough time to learn how to use the technology and lack of time to plan for projects to implement with students. They fear the unknown of something messing up and not knowing what to do.

  • Upgrades are hard to keep up with.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:45 AM

  • Keeping up with new technology in the classroom. With the many changes and upgrades in technology, old computer systems in the classroom often cannot run newer programs.

  • Not enough money in the budget to purchase what is needed in the classroom. When I ask for something the DTC and the principal tell me there is no money. I am willing to learn but unable to use what I have learned.
