Our vision is that every teacher has access to the same hardware in their classroom. We will be able to provide consistent staff development to learn the skills to effectively build the capacity to integrate technology. This may result in an increase in student performance.

Activity 2: Articulating Your Personal Vision

NETS*A Performance Indicator I.A: Educational leaders facilitate the shared development by all stakeholders of a vision for technology use and widely communicate that vision.

Correlation with Making Technology Standards Work for You: A Guide for School Administrators: Developing a Common Vision for Technology Integration in Education, p. 14-17.

    Introduction:
The initial step in systemic change is the development of a vision statement that clearly describes what the school community will look like in the future. Before a leader can facilitate development of a shared vision for a site or district, s/he must be able to clearly articulate his or her own personal vision. This activity is designed to assist leaders in organizing and recording their own “big picture” thoughts about how technology can be used in their school or district to support instruction. The activity can also be used with larger groups to provide a springboard for discussion among stakeholders.

    Activity:

Articulating Your Personal Vision for a Technology-Supported Learning Environment
Directions: Use this five step process to develop a personal vision scenario for a technology-supported learning environment.

    1. List the critical instruction-related issues facing your school or district in the first column.
    2. Prioritize these issues by numbering each (1 = highest priority, 2 = medium priority, 3 = lowest priority). You may use each number more than once, but be honest; every issue cannot be your highest priority.
    3. Review your list again.
o Which issues are under your direct control and can be resolved by you alone? Mark these issues 'D.'
o Which issues can be indirectly controlled by you, but would require assistance from others? Mark these issues 'I.'
o Which issues are completely out of your direct and indirect control? Mark these issues 'N.'
    4. Use the possible solutions column to write your ideas for solving each issue. Include technology use where appropriate. If an issue is marked 'D,' write what you can do. If an issue is marked 'I' write what could be done and list those people whose support you need to make a change. If an issue is marked 'N,' and is truly outside your direct or indirect control, do not write a solution.
    5. Use the information in the Critical Issues and Possible Solutions to write a scenario that describes the kind of technology-supported learning environment you will strive to achieve.

  • At Sakai, all teachers would be confident in their technology skills and would have the tools necessary, using technology daily to enhance classroom instruction. Students would be working on individualized projects that include the use of electronic tools for research, graphing, spreadsheets, presentations and word processing. There would be a flow of communication between teachers, students, and the parent community through innovative use of e-mail and the Internet. Students and parents can access academic progress, information, and resources through the teachers’ and schools websites. JV and RS
